Working with audio i FCP X. was created by Silversurfer
Hi,
I have recently changed from FCP 7 to FCP X and find it difficult working with audio. Currently I have a take which is recorded with 2 microports in two channels. One microport in each channel. But FCP X only shows one channel in the timeline. It is like it has collapsed the two channels into one. I would like to seperate them and work on the audio on each channel, like you did i FCP 7 and Premiere Pro. How do I do this? There are no audiomixer i FCP X, how do you mix audio i FCP X?
Regards,
Silversurfer

Thanks, I guess you then work with the audio in the channel configuration, but it says that 'Audio Channels Configuration is unavaliable for the selectied clips', can you tell what to do?

It is actually nicer than in FCP7.

Like Tom said. It works like this;
Select an individual audio channel in the Timeline, well no, you can't reconfigure it, it is only a single channel you're working on. Apply filters, adjust gain, pan, etc, you're only working with that individual channel.
Select the video portion of the clip, and you can manage your channel configurations for that "clip" as a whole.

Thanks. The problem is, that the two channels have different volume. It is an interview recorded with two microports. So in the audio clip in the timeline volume goes up and down. I have tried to fix it with keyframes and leveling the volume, but it does not work so well. Do you know any filters that can do the job better?

You have to constantly change volume on each channel, independently? That's not a good recording. You may want to put a Compressor on each, first. That may calm them down a bit. And the Range tool may make your work a lot easier, also.
R for range tool, drag across the section of audio you need to change level of, grab level bar and move it as desired, keyframe are automatically made at the range's head and tail for you.
I wonder if someone turned the auto-gain function on, when recording, if that device has it. I hate audio gain...

Hi, just a question, if I want to level the gain in a selection of the audio clip, but not the hole clip, how do you do that?

Do you mean apply compression or a limiter to only a section of an audio clip? You can't. You'd have to blade that clip, and apply it only to that independent section.
OR, if you do blade it up, put all the bladed sections that need the same audio filter/setting into a Compound Clip, the apply the audio filter to the CC.
OR, keep the whole audio clip intact, apply the audio filter, adjust to suit the bad areas, then keyframe the audio filter's Amount parameter, which could work easily.
