So I'm trying to use a music video and put my own photos in it. I have used the trim tool to cut out the video but when I delete the video the rest of the video slides over to fill in the gap how do I keep it still so I can add my own photos and keep the audio synced

That's basic to how the magnetic timeline works. What a lot of users making music videos do is put the music on the primary storyline as that's the bed that doesn't move, and then add the video as connected clips or as secondary storylines.

So what have done? Put the video on the primary and detached the audio? Then lift the video out out the primary and put the audio in its place. When you cut up the video it won't move.

You can stack clips as connected clips just on top of any shots (or connected as a secondary storyline). If you want to cut out shots from the video, you can use delete (under the fn key), or shift-delete (the long delete key), and it will replace it with a gap clip, which is like a blank clip. Also, you can use the P (position) tool to simply move clips anywhere you want, and overwrite any video you want. Lots of ways to do it.

In general when I'm cutting a music video, I will attach the music to a short section of gap clip at the very head, and then I will add shots to the primary storyline or attach clips on top as needed. It's also ok to stick the music in the primary and attach clips or storylines on top. Again, lots of ways to do it.
