This might be a pretty basic question, but better safe than sorry
.
What is the easiest/most correct way to copy timelines between different projects?

You can either copy and paste or make a compound clip of your timeline and then put that CC in the new project/timeline.

Thanks. In fact this was the method I intended to use in the first place. But then I thought it might be too obvious and decided I better asked here
.

Actually, I'd simply duplicate it. Right-click the Project in the Browser, select Duplicate, re-name it.
Now, your use of terminology confuses me. A "Project" is a type of Timeline, as is a Clip, a Compound Clip, Multicam Clip, etc. Everything in the Browser is a Timeline. Do you mean copy content from one Project into another? Or do you mean copy on Project from one Library or Event into another? In that case, drag-and-drop.

I mean copy content from the timeline in one project to the timeline in another project, - does that make sense?

Then there are four options, each with pros and cons:
- Right-click Project, Duplicate, rename.
- Right-click Project, Duplicate as Snapshot (only if you need to disconnect multicam and/or compound clips from parent)
- Command-A to select all, Command-C to copy, create new Project, Command-V to paste.
- Command-A to select all, Option-G to create a new Compound Clip, create new Project, drop Compound Clip parent from Browser into new Project. Then Shift-Command-G to break apart clip items, in one or both Projects, if needed.
That's about it.
