I've never really been a fan of the Apple mice. I had a nice Logitech that I liked but it stopped working completely after about 8 months or so. What I liked about it is that I could scroll horizontally by tilting the scroll wheel. Very handy for moving around the timeline. It also had forward and back buttons for web browsing.

Since it busted, I am using the corded Apple mouse that I have with the tiny little wheel in the middle. It works GREAT for scrolling in any giving direction. I LOVE that. But unfortunately because of the idiotic design I must lift my index finger up off of the mouse to right click and that is just stupid. Dumb Apple and their "form over function" policy. And it doesn't have forward and back buttons useful for web and Finder browsing. If it had those buttons and the ability to right click like a normal mouse I'd continue to use it as I really like it otherwise.

So what does everyone recommend and why do you like the mouse you have? I really look forward to reading everyone's opinion. Wireless or corded doesn't really matter to me, but if it's wireless I definitely prefer Bluetooth.

If you're open to new things, you should try the Magic Trackpad. I could not imagine ever going back to a mouse! FCPX seems to be made for gestures, really. I love it - quick, efficient, nice for the wrist and fingers.

BTW, on my iPad you appear as "banned" and with black dots below your name. How did you get that?

"They" tried to silence me because I know too much, but it didn't work. Who are "They"? I have no clue, I really don't know very much.

I really can't stand trackpads. Every time I try to use an Apple laptop I want senators to immediately pass a law permitting doctor-assisted suicide.

I know you don't want to hear that, but the Magic Trackpad is really great on FCPX.
And quite different to the tiny 'finger rests' on laptops.

Alone the 'swiping' thru the timeline with a peppy gesture is not only fun, but fast and intuitive. Not to mention Pinch-to-zoom....

And it doesn't have forward and back buttons useful for web and Finder browsing.

No, two-fingers left/right swipe does that. Simple as that.

... that is just stupid. Dumb Apple and their "form over function" policy.

I dare to read between the lines some confrontative attitude towards Apple's design principles  No Apple-fan perhaps leads to a 'ban' here. :woohoo:

What I liked about it is that I could scroll horizontally by tilting the scroll wheel.

reminds me of that red 'nipple' on IBM Thinkpads - never got comfortable with that.

I use the Logitech Performance Mouse and love it. Tried the trackpad but hate it. It's too inaccurate and laggy for me.

To the mappable by application buttons I've mapped zoom in and zoom out, expand/contract all tracks and toggle clip skimming.

It also has vertical and horizontal scrolling. (Works great in the timeline) I can't live without this mouse.

First and foremost, the Apple Magic Trackpad is NOT anything like a laptop trackpad. I'd never go back to a freakin' mouse, EVER. In fact, I've got my MC Transport up for sale because I never use it. Too slow, clunky. Magic Trackpad, all the way. Beats out a mouse any day. IMHO.

I've got scrolling, zoom, everything on one large, smooth surface. Way easier on my wrist. Simply "magic"...

I will be giving the magic trackpad a try! Do you guys use the standard gestures, or a program like BetterTouchTool?

I would suggest something that doesn't run on batteries, it foes suck you are in the zone and suddenly your batteries run out. ;)

MT batteries don't "just run out". Notification Center warns you in plenty time when they're going low, and you can monitor battery life when you have the Bluetooth icon turned on in the Menu bar.

Plus, get the Apple rechargeable battery pack along with the MT. Comes with I think 4 batteries and a nice charger. MT comes with 2 of its own. So you always have batteries ready when one pair starts to drain too much. And the batteries last a surprisingly long time.

I got BetterTouchTool, played with it for a day, then never used it again. Standard settings are enough to customized it for me. My only suggestion is the Three Finger Drag. If you like it, great. If not, turn it off and you can double-tap-drag things (which I like much better). I also turn off Natural Scroll direction, but some folks like it. You an also set tracking speed, which responds very nicely.

Today you couldn't pay me enough to go back to 1- a mouse, 2- anything wired. Now, if Apple would make a wireless full sized keyboard...

Again, that mouse is clunky, slow, and you couldn't pay me enough.

you want speed I would suggest a Tablet, muscle memory and gestures. ;)
P.S. nothing beats a wired device in terms of latency. :)

I find the Apple trackpad fine but do its small real Estate greater forces are required, I fill my wrist and non-used fingers will cramp up after awhile.

I've never experienced cramping with the Magic Trackpad.

Another advantage of the trackpad is if you edit on MacBooks *and* desktops. The Magic trackpad isn't learning something new -- it's the same as the MacBook, only bigger.

My only problem with the Magic trackpad is my wrist gets tired holding my hand up.

Try this 'position':
put your wrist on the table; put MagicTrackpad under your hand, that your thumb can barely touch (and click it)

=> a very stable, relaxed position. No cramping...

Yes, I like the MTp!
Although using only the keyboard is by far faster…- but I'm learning...

I shift around in my chair often during the day, and my hand automatically moves the Magic Trackpad with it. I rest my wrist on the desk, have it set to tap for clicks, not press it down, I get no fatigue, when not moving the mouse cursor my hand wrests on the Magic Trackpad not having to be held up for any reason, my wrist never hurts like i used to with mice, very relaxing, very responsive. And it is not the same as the trackpad on a laptop, not at all. It is large, does gestures a laptop doesn't, and has no lag at all. I've been using it since Apple first released it. I have a second one in my laptop bag, too. You couldn't pay me enough to go back to a mouse.
