Hi guys,

I am working on a big documentary with different kind of videos.
I have videos of 25p, 50p and 25i coming from a camcorder and videos of 29.99p coming from an Iphone.

I've already imported everything long time ago and already created lot of independent projects that I will use for the big movie later. Most of them contain only on type of videos (25p OR 50p OR 25i OR 29.99p) but there is also a few who have mixed videos. Is it a problem? Or will it be when I will export ?

I also realised now that some of the videos in 25i have very strong black lines when something moves on the camera. How can I fix that ?

Can I fix all those issues once the final movie is done before to export or do I need to take care of it BEFORE to mix different type of videos in a same project ? (That would mean I need to do again all the project with mixed videos right ?)

Thanks a lot for your help guys !

Have a good day.

Arthur.

Mixed formats in one Timeline, consider the effects. Placing a 24fps clip in a 60fps Timeline, means fake frames must be added to the 24p clip, so it stays in correct timing. This could make for slightly jittery video if there is enough movement in the clip. Thus, rule of thumb, make the timeline the lowest standard frame rate used by your clips. Example, if your slowest frame rate on a clip is 24p, then make the timeline 24p. But, different clips have somewhat different characteristics. So you may want to experiment a bit. Edit some of those mixed clips into a Timeline. Make a new timeline with a different framer rate. Copy/paste those edited clips from the first one to the second. Export and compare.

Strong black lines? I'd have to see a screen shot of that.

Hi Ben, thanks a lot for your reply.

So what will happen for the images of 50p into a timeline of 25 ?
I will lose quality anyway right ?
Is there any way to convert everything to have all videos at the same format ?

I can't take a screen shot showing the black line because its only when the picture moves.
I know that its due to the fact that its interlaced (25i) but I wanted to know what is the best way to fix it.
I found a way : selecting the clip on the project > in the inspector go to info (settings selected) and then put "progressive" in the "field dominance override" section. So if I do that I don't see the lines anymore in the project but it doesn't resolved the issue in the event browser.

So I wanted to know if there is a better way to do it to all my 25i footage at the same time ?

Thanks for your help.

Actually no, the issue isn't totally fixed when I use the progressive setting with fcp x. The lines are less visible but still there...

No, you won't loose any image quality, as far as clarity, and the "potential" for jitters may not even be noticeable. I'd say make a 50fps timeline and a 25fps timeline, drop clips in, export, see what they look like, compare them. Depends on if they're bright or dark clips, lots of movement or very little, depends, experiment, this is a great learning experience.
