timecode question

Hi,
Usually when I finish an edit I send it out for the client to review. The clip I send has timecode burned in to make it easy.

When I get the list of changes that they want back it will have the changes listed with the various timecodes.

So say for example the clip is 10 minutes long and there are a dozen or so changes needed.

When I work on the changes, I have to start from the end of the timeline and work to the front.
You cant start from the start of the timeline because then all the following timecode would not be the same anymore according to the notes the client sent. (if I added a 2.5 second title for example, now all the notes I need to follow would be 2.5 seconds off from the new timelines timecode)

So my solution, working from the end of the timeline to the start, works but seems kind of lame..

Just wondering how others deal with this..

thanks
Kurt

1st thing I do while reading through the change list is make To-Do markers. Then I have a list there inside FCP, using the Timeline Index, of what was or wasn't done to the project. Even long after changes were made. Allows me to make notes about each change, also, inside the project itself.

thanks, thats probably how it should be done, but I'd be copy and pasting a lot of text into many markers..

There is a export fcpx markers app.. It would be nice if it did the opposite.. add markers with all the text needed :)

lucky me, I'my own client  (=hobby movie maker)

unfortunately Apple axed quite a while ago the ability to keep the sources TC in a project.
… until I found this solution for my special needs:

Compounds keep the original TC!

So, a thinkable workaround could be:
apply a TC-generator to your clip/project. Compound it. Edit it. When done, de-compound it and erase the TC-generator.

But I have to agree, Ben's solution with ToDo-markers and the Timeline Index is more appealing....-

Thanks.. I was thinking of something along those lines..

not sure what yet though...
the TCG would somehow need to reflect the old (before any edits) timeline's timecode.

So even though, after some edits, the original timecode 00.12 (for example) , is really now somewhere down the timeline after edits.. So I need to be able to easily find 00.12

Ill look at your solution once I get some time..
thanks

I have changes that I need to apply to the feature I'm working on every weekend after my meeting with the director. I find that to do markers are my best friend. :)
