Hi All,

As I'm still very new to FCP and on a steep learning curve, I've managed to create all my Projects under the default Main Library that's sitting on the internal drive of my Mac. I started to wonder why my Mac's slowing down and it seems it's my fault for building such a huge Library and consuming a ton of space!

So, can someone tell me how best to move the Main Library to an external drive and free up some space please?

Thanks,
Dom.

If all your media is inside the library, the simplest thing to do, with the application closed, is to move it to a fast external drive and double-click it to open it from there.

Thanks Tom... do you mean move there Library from within Finder? Where's the Library located on the internal HD?

The default location is your Movies folders.

You are probably aware of this, but a reminder that moving files between volumes means you'll be copying the library and you'll need to trash the original library in your Movies folder  – after, double-clicking the new library to open and test – just to make sure it works, of course.

And consolidate that Library before copying, also.
