Camera archives? was created by hepler
Hello, I have a few FCPX archives that I created a couple of years ago. I tried to open them today and the latest version of FCPX won't open them. Could you tell me what I need to do to have the newest version of FCPX open those old archives.
Thanks so much.

You don't really open them. You open the import window, select the archive, and it loads the content.

Thanks for the reply, Sorry for the bad use of words. I am trying to import them through fcpx. command I then the window.
so what would be the reason that it gives me a dialog box that says "No importable files" "None of the selected files or folders can be imported. Change the selection and try again.
I am using 10.1.4 and one of the archives was created march 19 2013 and the other was march 2014. So a couple of oder versions of fcpx. I even loaded them on to my laptop which has the last version of fcpx and it did the same thing.
Any advice?

Under the file/import/ the reimport from camera/archive is greyed out. So I am assuming that is what the problem is. Why would be the next question.

So just for information; assuming someone else is as slow as me. You just right click on the camera archive to show the package contents, same as a current library. The copy or move the files out of the package and import as usual. I still don't know what the reason the archive imput is greyed out.

You shouldn't have to do this. There is something wrong with the media or the archve. When you go to the archive in the import window and open it, what do you see?
Reimport from archve is for when the the media has already been imported.

Do you remember what camera(s) were the source of the archives?
Awhile back my Blackmagic Pocket Cinima Camera archives stopped working. In my case only the first clip ever imports. More recently I lost my ability to create archives from that camera although I haven't checked with 10.1.4.
Yet, through it all, all my Canon Vixia archives works.
My hunch is that something is borking the .plist in certain types of camera archives making either and/or the create or import function not work.
Like you, the files themselves are still OK and if you pull them out of the archive they'll import.
If you can know the camera with a certitude and still have it, you may want to shoot a few clips with it, import and test to see if the new archive works.
