Media managment question was created by dkag7
Hi All,
I just got a huge project in (3TB of huge) and I copied all files over to a 12TB RAID for a back up. I doubt I will be able to edit off this RAID due to the speed I will need.
I have a 1TB raid of SSD that I will have to use.
After copying all files over the the 12TB raid, I am going through now the relinking of all the Libraries Files (events and projects).
Once this is done (hopefully successfully), this is what I was thinking of doing.. can it be done...? I want to edit off the SSD, and only use the 12TB to keep the media untouched.
1. Create new libraries/events/projects, as needed, onto the SSD from the original Library that is on the 12TB HDD.
2. On the new SSD libraries, only link to the media from the 12TB, but be able to transcode optimize the media onto the SSD (so I'd be using this transcoded media to do the edits).
3. Once the edits are done, delete all the transcoded media from the SSD, to save the library.
4. Go onto the next library.. rinse - repeat
Is there a way to do this?
thanks for any help..
Kurt
... Another thought..
After all media is relinked on the 12TB HDD, close FCPX
Then copy over the latest auto saved library that FCPX backed up in its backup folder to the SSD. open this library in FCPX
Will all the media just be linked?
If so, now I could transcoded media as needed per each new event/project..?

Exactly why can't you use the 12TB RAID?

If the RAID doesn't support it, make proxies not optimized. That will increase your overhead on the SSD.
If the RAID is too full don't run. It'll just get more and more fragmented and become more prime to drive failure.
