Weird Jiggly Tracked Titles

Not sure of all the technical goodies that must be going on underneath but before I figure this out I wanted to pull my hair out and this might help someone else.

I am sure you are aware of the Title Adjustment Layer cheat brought in from Motion and added to FCP 10 which then acts as an adjustment layer. I use this often to add a look to my grade.

Anyway when I brought in a tracked title sequence from Motion to go over my ingredients in my cooking insert and place it ABOVE the adjustment layer it has delays and acts weird. At first I thought it had to be a field or frame rate issue - title being progressive and video being interlaced and did a whole bunch of tests, also tried AE CC but nothing worked. The titles work perfectly on their own when previewed in Finder and in Motion and AE.

Putting titles beneath adjustment layer fixes problem. Little irritating, I could paste look directly onto clip with title above and cut adjustment layer but don't mind slight colour cast.

Hey Tommy,

I have done some tests with different title sequences on top of an adjustment layer and I cannot reproduce the issue.

- Are you using a specific kind of adjustment layer (from Ripple, Coremelt....) or have you created the adjustment layer yourself?

- Could you send me the tracked title sequence template at ronnycourtens(at)mac(dot(com) so I can have a look at it?

Wow Ronnie!!! That's incredible. Thank you for trying this out.

I tried to remove this post but couldn't see an option in the thread, although I confess I did not search very hard.

I also could not re-create it so I must have done something really dumb to the source clip. I think I might have applied some kind of stabilisation on either shots in Motion or FCP which was causing the two clips to run "out-of-sync" with each other.

Also if I had slowed down a little I could have figured out to use the colour corrected shot and just sent out a flatten clip instead of a ProRes 444 with Alpha.

Just FYI I use the adjustment layer shown in MacBreak Studio 186, creating a title in Motion and sending it to FCP. I wish there was an actual one thou from Apple so it would translate in the FCPXML.

Hi Tommy,

Thank you for clarifying this.

Adjustment layers should always translate in FCPXML. Download this one from Ripple Training: www.rippletraining.com/using-the-adjustm...final-cut-pro-x.html

I have used this adjustment layer in a Project with a color correction applied to it. As you can see in the screenshot it perfectly translates in the FCPXML, and it is rebuilt correctly when I import the XML back in FCP X:

That's fantastic Ronny, thank you :)

Will be using the Ripple Training one instead of the one I created before.

Cheerio.
