MXF bug with Pro Video Formats 2.0 was created by Stuart Hadley
Hey all has anyone else had an issue with Pro Video Formats 2.0 playing different flavors of MXF.
Seems to have a bug with various flavors of MXF. I've done some testing and sometimes mxf flavors will work in QT7 but not QTX.
I've got it working on a 10.8.5 machine with FCP7 installed then i can play a number of mxf flavors in QT10.2 because i have FCP7 with QT7 installed. If don't have these installed you cant play them in QTX. Occasional they work only in QT7 and not QTX at all, defiantly a bug or extra something somewhere.
It seems to be how you install Pro Video Formats 2.0 with FCP7 this gives QTX access to codecs better than just installing Pro Video Formats 2.0.
Any help tracking down the exact install process to successfully work this.

Hi Stuart,
This is not related to MXF. Just like QuickTime, MXF is just a wrapper that can contain many different codecs. Some of these codecs can only be read by legacy players that run on the QT framework such as QT7. Others can be read by QT X which runs on the AV/Foundation framework. That's also the case for codecs wrapped in .mov. containers. To play back older QT-based codecs you don't need to have FCP7 installed, you can install QT7 and QT X and use both side by side.

Hey Ronny
Yeah believe MXF plugin uses the QT7 plugin not AV foundation in QTX. Just not been able to get it to work with just QT7 and QTX installed on a machine without FCP7.
Think there is something else going on but can't quite put my finger on it yet. I tried an IMX flavour of mxf (among others) and works fine in QT7 but not always in QTX unless FCP7 is installed. Recreated issue several times with several different builds.
I was just testing it and found issue. Wether it is a difference in activating QT7 and QT7Pro i'm not sure but seems to be a bug where QTX doesn't really use all QT7 plugins correctly as you say because it is built on AV foundation.
I'll do more tests soon and hope I can get to bottom of it.

Hi Stu,
When you have done more testing, report back. I would be interested in knowing the results of these tests.

Ok latest tests haven't come up with anything.
I've even gone as far as using carbon copy cloner to copy a working image to a new drive. Surprisingly afterwards the MXF thats was working in QTX on original drive no longer work on new image. No changes made just copied to a new drive
Also found one image i had working no longer works since a colleague installed additional programs.
Seems at moment its a bit pot luck if you can get flavors of mxf such as XDCam working or not.
I'll continue chipping away but if anyone has a suggestion on what could be issue.
