Editing clips to get the timing right with the music - HELP!

Hi All,
Still climbing this steep learning curve, but loving what FCP can do
I have a problem I can't seem to fix and it's driving me crazy! I've added a music track to my timeline and have spent the last couple of hours going through each clip (starting at the beginning) to shorten it in order to get the timing right with the music. Having got pretty close to the end of the film I realised that I'd somehow missed a clip near the start of the film.
The point at which the clips meet is basically too far to the right on the timeline, so I dragged the end of the clip on the left to the left to shorten it and bring the transition point to the right place, but of course, this has simply moved all the other clips that come after it out of sync with the music!!!
For the life of me, my little brain can't seem to figure out how to fix this issue. I need to somehow move the transition point between those 2 clips near the start without moving all the other clips out of sync.
Any help most welcome!
Thanks,
Dom.

Sounds like you're doing ripple edits, you want to do a roll edit. Hit "T" to get the trim tool. Click on the edit point. Use the < and > keys to manipulate it to where it needs to be. Nothing ripples, it all stays in place.

Rippling either side of an edit point = lengthening or shortening the overall Storyline, throwing things out of sync possibly.
Rolling, Slipping, Sliding do not effect timing of any other edits in the Timeline.
If you are trying to adjust an actual Transition, then the page previously referred to is your solution.
