oHello,
I am trying to adjust the video levels within the portion of a larger clip without it affecting the video levels of the entire scene.
Can someone give me some guidance please.
Thank you

Yes, it's simple.
- If your camera doesn't move too much, you simply have to use a mask and color correct only what's inside (or outside) the mask. Look here www.larryjordan.biz/fcp-x-shape-masks-for-color-effects/
- If your camera moves a lot, you need to track the area that you want to color correct. You can use the Color Correct Shape Mask that comes with Coremelt SliceX with Mocha

If I read you post correctly, if you are wanting to effect just a few seconds of a clip then you will need to either cut the clip with a through edit (little dottle lines will show rather than a solid cut) or you can use an adjustment layer.
Let us know if you need further help.

That is very helpful info but not the answer I am looking for. I have a video clip that runs 4 minutes,
at 3 minutes in I need to correct the video levels. The mask will work great at that spot but the enire 4 minute clip is affected. I need to seperate this section only and not correct the whole scene.
Hope that senario explains it better.
Thanks

I just updated my question and I think your suggestion would work.
Do I use the razor cut and separate this portion away and then reapply it to the end of clip where it needs to be?

No, get an adjustment layer. Learn more and download one here.
www.fcp.co/final-cut-pro/tutorials/945-h...s-in-final-cut-pro-x
You place it as a clip above what you want effected. Trip it to the duration you want everything below it effected. Then make adjustments in this "adjustment layer clip" and you can effect only portions of things.
Or, you could cut with the razor blade (what I'd do). You can also use a cross dissolve to fade the levels effect in and out, rather than jump cutting it.
