What are you using as the best workflow for converting XAVC? I have just downloaded a trial of Brorsoft to convert into ProRes is that the best way?
Sorted.

Sony Catalyst browse is quite interesting and should be your first choice...

I agree with Francois, you should try those two ways before applying for some third-party software.

Absolutely agree with François. Both the Catalyst software and the PDKZ plugin work fine with FCP X. XAVC is still very young and very undeveloped. For one particular flavor (XAVC L from the PXW-X70) only the Catalyst software will work. Even Sony's own NLE cannot import that format without problems (go figure). I would stay away from those cheap external converters, i have seen some very badly encoded video from some of these.

The direct import plugin worked fine. I had a look at the Catalyst app but didn't really need it. Thanks for the replies!

when i import those clips from my sony a7s , i can edit them without problem... but when i export XML to go to Davinci , it can't find the original clips.
Even if i point to the directory that clips exist, it can't read them.... any ideas ?

Maybe you could preload them in the "media pool" before importing the "fcpxml", it will also confirm that Davinci can read them in their original form... just a guess.

Is the media external or managed? If the media is inside the library package davinci may not read it.

its managed from FCPX.... so Davinci can't see those files ?
I learned something new today !
So, i have to keep those files outside FCPX library ?

Yes. Just as long as the media both programs are using is in a normal OS X folder rather than a library package.
