I edit on my Macbook Pro and sometimes find it easier to edit using proxy footage than I do the original (disclaimer: for my last two projects, I haven't transcoded my footage to full rez prores). I was wondering if anyone knows of a keyboard shortcut to toggle proxy footage on and off? I'd like to cut down on the number of steps that it takes to do this.

Currently I have to open the preferences dialog and then, if I've remembered to leave the playback tab open, click the radio button to switch between proxy and original/unused media. Not a huge chore, but it begins to get repetitive after a few times.

Thanks for your time and input.

IMO there is no way to assign a keyboard shortcut to this function. When you go into Final Cut Pro > Commands > Customize and you enter "Proxy" in the Search field you will find no matches. This means there is no function for proxies that you can assign a shortcut to . There is only a shortcut available for Preferences

Which is far easier than the hoops we had to jump through before.

For what it's worth, the 2 HD projects I am currently working on, both 1080-- I am editing, color correcting, titling and posting client proofs to youtube, all in proxy mode. The speed boost is welcome (even on my Mac Pro ) and I never have to render.

So I find command-, and then checking the box pretty quick.
