Would love to know more about this masterpiece, since Leonardo has done it on FCP X.

I have sent him an e-mail a few weeks ago and he agreed to do an interview. But he has been very busy lately, so this will have to wait.

Afte chatting with leonardo, I sent him a lust of questions to answer rather than an interview.

He hasn't got back to me with the answers yet.
I'll ping him another email.

It surprises me the effect of the music is so huge. See the vid again without music: definitely missing a dimension.

I had a long conversation with the director/editor today. He is an amazing person. He says pictures are meaningless without sound, and that's exactly what you have noticed. Tune in for an exclusive in-depth interview with all the details on how this video was made, coming soon on FCP.co :)

I don't mean this in a mean way, but it surprises me that the effect of the music surprises you.

Tom, it is probably just me and the way I look and listen. It was not my intention to say anything negative about the vid. I'm no native speaker ;) . Do you mean that the music ALWAYS has effect?

ALWAYS. Since silent movies when live orchestras played in the pit during performances, music has had an immense impact on the perception of the image. It's axiomatic that audio is at least 50% of the picture, and music without other sound or dialogue, it's probably 80% of the picture. The old saying is that television is radio with pictures. Sound tells the story; picture sells the advertising. OK I'm being a bit cynical.

A lot of years ago in a media course our instructor showed a short clip of a man running after another in a forest. The first time through it was played with suspenseful music - the second time with comedic. The difference in how we students saw the scene was dramatic. That really and simply illustrated for me how much the music shaped the viewers reaction.

Funny, we made some same exercise in the 70ies - with projected slides of a single tree! The connotations were hilarious different, from 'The Place of All Evil: Tree of Doom!", over "Spring is coming" to "The Funny Treehouse Family".

Yepp, audio is essential and in the case of the OT, that mixture of whisper, 'exotic' and esp. the mix itself creates that ... awesomeness (<< English?? :S )

@plysat: Didn't know that Shining video - great! Thanks for that!
