Canceling Background Tasks, Hangs while quitting was created by Don Rumsey
As the title says. When I go to quit 10.1.4, I get a Canceling Background Tasks message at the top of the screen. I have Background Render off. Nothing else is going on otherwise. Then...when it does close the window... It shows the little white light under the FCPX icon in the dock. The only way to get it to shut down is to force quit.
Once I do this,,, the next time I open the program none of my thumbnails in the library show anything. they are just a bunch of blank blue squares.
So to remedy the problem i trashed the preferences with preference manager. Restart.
Everything is fine until I go to quit again. Same problem repeats itself.

Shut down FCP X and start it up again while holding the ALT+CMD keys pressed down. You will get a message asking you if you want to delete your preferences. Confirm and let FCP X launch. This will correctly delete your preference files and it will open FCP X with an empty Library and reset user preferences.
Now give the empty Library a name, import 5 or 6 clips, create a Project and add the clips to the Project timeline. Then wait at least 15 minutes and shut down FCP X. Does it shut down correctly or do you still have the "Canceling Background tasks" message?
