Final Cut Library Manager

I've been having problems with this application. It either crashes on start-up or doesn't seem to be scanning properly and finding all the appropriate files. When it works it's great but something's wrong. Anyone else seeing this? I have contacted Arctic Whiteness but haven't heard back from them yet.

Do you have a lot of libraries? Leave it running for longer than you feel is comfortable: On my system it can take several minutes every time I launch it. During that boot up the app will be unresponsive.
Also: Disconnected, but indexed drives seem to slow it down considerably.

@Ellard

I found the preferences and deleted them. It started up well the next time. I have about 150 libraries on two different RAID's so that probably contributes as you say. I'll see where it goes from here. Thanks

I've been having the same issues (and I also have a lot of libraries).

Please contact the developers (like I did) so they can see that this is a problem others are having to and can work on a fix.

Count me in as a user who has this exact same problem. I've emailed the developers but haven't heard back. Was hoping the recent update fixed it, but no avail. I'll try trashing the prefs!

Do you also have a lot of libraries?

Personally, I have over 50, but I have no idea if that is the problem. I just know, the application used to work perfectly and then about two updates ago, it started crashing all the time and it wouldn't load all my libraries.

Hi,

I'm trying to get to the bottom of this, but it's not easy because I can't reproduce the problem.

The first thing to do is to launch the application with CMD and ALT held down. That will completely reset it and should, I hope, get it started again.

However, if it continues to crash then please contact me again so that I can send you a debug version which will hopefully allow me to narrow it down.

Thanks for you patience!

Tim

Tim,

Thanks for your help. It's still not working and I sent you a screenshot and the log files.

I do have a lot of libraries (about 50) and most are on an external HD - I don't know if that has anything to do with it. But it is showing all my external libraries as being empty (and none of them are).

Chris

Just a possibility:
- Leave FCLM
- Rebuilding spotlight index (see instructions here www.arcticwhiteness.com/faqs/why-arent-m...found-automatically/ )
- Wait for the complete reconstruction...
- Launch FCLM with ALT + CMD

Does it work better?

Get in touch with Tim. I PM'd him and he helped me out - the debug version he sent me actually ended up fixing all the issues suddenly. Great support from a great software developer!

It's still broken for me.

This makes me very sad as I really loved this program.

For folks who are having trouble with FCLM, have a look at X-Wiper. Not nearly as full featured (I own both FCLM and this) but a great, simple app for cleaning out/slimming down Libraries. Can't beat it for 5 bucks...

Can't sleep? Try this: fcpxpert.net ;-)

Thanks for the suggestion, I hadn't heard of X-Wiper before.

I really love FCLM, but I just can't get it to work anymore. I think it's having issues with the number of libraries I have.

I know Arctic Whiteness was trying to fix it (as others are having issues besides me), but I haven't had an update from them in a while on their progress.

I might have to switch to X-Wiper. :(

Try-so: competition has always been good.
Sorry for our silence these days: two things prevented us from moving forward on this bug: the new rules on VAT in Europe, so a redesign of our online sales system, and some holidays we really need. this bug is more complex than expected. but do not worry we will work obviously very quickly on this problem :) In the meantime, we wish you a happy new year 2015! I'm glad to hear that you're still trying to solve it. It's been broken for me since early November (I first reported the issue on November 6th). So, just like before, if there is anything I can do to help you test it and solve the problem, just let me know.

Hello,
Sorry again for the time we take to solve your specific problem. In addition to our holiday and our respective professions, the problem is more complex than we thought, especially since it seems to be related to some of the code that we are trying to rewrite to make starting Final Cut Library Manager much faster in the case of a large number of items to display. And we can not fix one without the other.
We begin to see more clearly in our negotiations with the Finder, but it will take more time.
We sincerely apologize.

Once again, I'm glad to hear that you're still trying to solve the issue. Any estimate on when you might have it solved?

Also, since it seems to be a new issue (the app worked perfectly for a long time), perhaps for those of experiencing it, we could run an old version of the app that you could make available.
