Hair removal from a coat in video

Hair removal from a coat in video was created by bobmax48
In the video I am editing now the person has short hair like pet hair on his jacket. There are 15 bad hairs and a few other that might pass as OK. The jacket is black so the hair sticks out. Since he used his hands a lot while talking some of the hair gets covered up at times. What would be the best method of removing the hair?

Hmm I know a way but I don't know if it's the easiest, and it requires a plugin.
If it was Photoshop you'd clone what's next to the hair everywhere in the picture. Here it's exactly the same, except his hands are moving. Coremelt SliceX Coremelt with Mocha can help you achieve this: it has a tool called "Object Removal" which works exactly like cloning in Photoshop. And on top of this you can track the movement of the hands so they don't get affected by the cloning.
I'm 100% sure it works very well, but it might be a bit long.
If somebody else has a better idea, shoot

I second the use of SliceX, although it will take some time to get it right. The reason is that there are a bunch of little hairs, and you'll have to have an instance of SliceX for each little region. I thought maybe you cold get away with outputting a still and using those as "patches," but I don't think that will work because there will be subtle moves in the jacket, and you'll have to track each patch anyway.
For the hands, you could dupe the clip and put a layer on top, and then use a SliceX mask that tracks the hands when they come in.
You may want to try just try a secondary color correction (perhaps masked to just the jacket) and just really darken the jacket only, without affecting the skin or the shirt. If this works, it's way easier than the above method. Best tool for this is something like DaVinci Resolve, but you can do it in FCPX too (the secondary is somewhat cruder and has fewer options).

Hi haysoos123, I think I'm going to learn something here: what is a secondary color correction, and how do you do it with FCPX ?
Thank you

I had already tried all of the suggestions given to me in these messages without much luck. What I need is a healing brush like in Aperture but that tracks the spots from frame to frame and fixes them. In all of the time I have owned SliceX I have only been able to use it to make garbage mask when I need one for a green screen shoot. Everything else I try to do with it fails miserably.
P.S. Secondary Color correction is when you add another Color Correction panel by clicking on the plus sign on the main Color Correction effect.

Maybe you could re-ask your question on the Coremelt forum, they might tell you how to do ith with SliceX. I'm certain it's possible.
And if not, you can still go to After Effects.
Thanks for the explaination!

Hey guys, been busy with a project. Secondary color correction usually refers to isolating a section or range of colors and only manipulating that. In DaVinci Resolve, they call it a qualifier. In FCPX, you make a secondary correction by clicking on the eye dropper tool and selecting a range of color, thereby creating a mask. So when you tweak that color correction, it only applies to the range you have selected. This is opposed to a primary correction, which applies to the whole image.
In this case, you would use the eye dropper to select a range of the coat, and then see if you can maybe crush down the exposure so that the only the coat would get darker and maybe hide some of the hair. I would guess that the background would make it somewhat harder to do because it's similar in tone to the coat, which is why DaVinci Resolve would give you finer control over the secondary. For best results, I would be that you would do a combination of crushing the coat and some object removal (SliceX can do this).

Thanks haysoos!
So the idea would be:
* Track the hands with SliceX
* Mask the coat (I call it coat layer)
* Apply secondary color correction to the white of that layer by pulling the exposure down
Which makes you save the time consuming task of applying object removal to each hair.
Something like that I guess.

If the darkening of the coat is all that's needed, you wouldn't have to have a separate layer for the hands. The secondary wouldn't affect the hands since the color and tone are so different. If you are spot-removing some of the hair, then you may need to have a separate layer for the hands if they move in front of those spots at some point.
If you need a way to pull a mask for the hands, a luma mask would probably work instead of masking them with SliceX. It's because the hands are a lot lighter than the coat.

A few more plugins worth looking at.
Perhaps Dirt Remover from CHV
www.chv-plugins.com/cms/FxPlug/RepairFX/...p5?navanchor=1010048
Also DH_ReincarnationX from Digital Heavan
www.digital-heaven.co.uk/dh_reincarnationx
There's Patch Repair from Brooklyn Effects. I rarely see them mentioned anywhere. Small company in Brooklyn NY that makes FCPX filters.

Thank you for everyone's help. What I ended up doing is just to use the eyedropper in Color Correction to make a mask and darkening the jacket. Still some hair was showing but at least it is not as noticeable as before.

It's funny because I've just run into that same issue today!
And I've found an unexpected solution with the plugin Beauty Box, setting the skin color... as the color of the jacket.
