I'm just discovering the concept of adjustment layers and they seem very useful. I have many projects where I need to make similar adjustments to various clips that aren't necessarily connected. I see that I can copy an adjustment layer for say scale and paste it over a separate clip. That's great, but is there a way to save that particular adjustment and reuse it for other projects? I tend to have multiple projects for each edit. Similarly, I tend to shoot flat with my camera which I typically adjust by dropping the blacks a little when I edit. I'd love to be able to save just that subtle change as an adjustment layer. As far as I can tell, adjustment layers are only for specific projects. Any ideas? thx

I have a separate "FX" library that I can open along with any other Library. If you had something like that you could make a compound clip in the FX Library, and copy/paste all your various adjustment layers into it. If you rename them so you know what's what, then you can just open the FX lIbrary, open the "adjustments" comp in a timeline and copy whatever adjustment layer you need to you current project. I've done this with guides/generators etc. Easy. :-)

Hi Bill,

Make an adjustment layer by selecting the basic title and right-click to open it in Motion.
Once in Motion make a new Group and drag the title layer in that Group.
Select the title layer.
Go to the inspector>Text tab>Format tab and type in the text field something like: "Adjustment Layer Description".
Click on the disclosure triangle that appears when you hover your mouse over the upper right corner of the Text panel in the inspector and select "Publish" from the drop-down menu.
Uncheck the "Editable in FCP" checkbox at the bottom of the Advanced Formatting panel in the Inspector>Format tab.
Uncheck the visibility checkbox of the Group containing the text layer, so it doesn't show as text over your video in FCPX.
As an extra security you can move the text bounding box in the viewer offscreen.
Save the file and go back to FCPX.
Make a new compound clip by typing Option-G and open it in its own timeline.
Drag the newly created Adjustment Layer in this timeline.
In the inspector you can give the Adjustment Laye a name, like "crushed blacks" or "103% scale".
When you click in the timeline you will see that this description is added to the clip.
You can now use this compound clip to store different types of adjustment layers.
In the timeline index you can easily find them.
Copy and paste in your project.
The Compound clip resides in your event so you can acces this compound clip in every project in that event.

Hope this helps.

Thanks. I'll experiment with both suggestions.
