Veeerrryyy Slow Importing from card. Spotlight interference?

Has anyone ever had an issue similar to this?

I am importing footage from a 32GB compact flash card with 58 clips shot on a Canon XF100, the camcorder of champions. But it's taking forever. I've used this card many times before without issue. The card itself seems fast enough for the camera (it's one of those UDMA7 cards that's super fast). It's copying the files over right now. Been going for over an hour and it "Importing Clips (19 of 58)" and has not started transcoding to ProRes yet. It's not like this card can hold a ton of footage, it's only 32GB.

Maybe stupid Spotlight is interfering? I recently upgraded to Yosemite (always pronounced phonetically). I thought I had this card on the exceptions list. But I opened Spotlight and it wasn't on there, so I added it. But it was already importing when I did this and nothing has changed as far as speed goes. Does it stop indexing immediately or will it wait until the NEXT time I insert the card to not index? Is there any way if I can see if it's actively indexing or not? Spotlight is stupid.

Hi Joe,

Stop the import if it is not done by now. Then re-insert the card and re-import. Re-import without converting to ProRes. If this goes smoothly you can always optimize the imported clips from the Browser.

Hey Joe,
Spotlight indexing should stop immediately. At least it does in Mavericks, I am not on Yosemite.
You can check this in Activity Monitor or a number of apps that monitor disk activity.
If you recently installed Yosemite and did not give your Mac time to do a complete indexing, then it is possible that it is still doing general indexing for your other drives that are not excluded. New OSs trigger a complete re-indexing. Try leaving your computer on overnight, then do a full shut down. Shutting down and restarting Macs clears garbage.
When you upgraded, did you do a clean install or update over Mavericks via App Store?
Do you do a camera card archive first before import?
Do you insert card directly into Mac or use a cable to import?
Sometimes camera import via cable can get slow.
Are there Canon drivers involved? Have they been updated for Yosemite?
Are there stills involved?
After you get your footage imported, you might want to try a complete reformat of the card.
Finally, I would recommend that you install Onyx for Mac from Titanium Software and run "Fix Permissions" and all of the "Maintenance Scripts". Onyx is just a GUI for regular Apple scripts.
Hope this helps, Greg

THIS! Yes the Canon drivers were installed but they had not been updated in a long time. They don't have a Yosemite version but they did have a Mavericks version released in June. I installed that and import now seems much faster. Thanks!
