Stupid iPhoto interfering with import

I have upgraded to Yosemite. Now, any time I insert a flash card with media on it, iPhoto opens. I do not want it to do this and it's extremely annoying and just plain stupid to presume that I want it to even use it. Dumb Apple programmers, thinking they know what I want. I do not see a preference for "Mind your own damn business iPhoto, I do not want to be friends with you. Leave me the hell alone!" Is there any fix to this extremely annoying occurrence other than deleting iPhoto (which I am extremely willing to do if it comes to it).

Hi,

Try this.

open iPhoto, yes I know you probably don't want to!

top left of page click 'iphoto' then click preferences -> it will default to general tab

in the window that opens there is a menu that says 'connecting camera opens' - select no application

and you should be done.

Good luck

Yeah I tried that. Just double-checked it now. iPhoto still opens even when an SD card with only video files on it is inserted.

Yeah, it is annoying. Try this (from www.pocket-lint.com/news/131423-os-x-yos...-your-mac-can-do-now )

Stopping iPhoto open automatically: By default Apple will try and open iPhoto when you connect your camera or insert your SD card into a reader. To stop this happening. Plug in your device (or insert your SD Card) and then go to Spotlight and type ImageCapture. Once loaded go to a small arrow in a box at the bottom left of the application window and select No Application from the drop down menu that is associated with the words "Connecting this camera opens:"

Thanks! I was able to make it stop by opening the preferences, chaging NO APPLICATION to iPhoto and then back to NO APPLICATION again.

I also have renamed iPhoto to assPhoto so that it knows where it ranks among the other applications. But then again that's 1.7 GB of space I could free up. I should probably delete all of the iApps like iMovie and iBooks. I'll keep iTunes. Probably should get rid of other useless apps like Keynote, Game Center, and Garbage Band while I'm at it. Would getting rid of Garbage Band mess up my Logic Pro installation at all? I know they share a few instrument sets. That is if the OS lets me delete them (iOS won't let me delete a lot of its apps).

Redifer,

Let me give this a shot.

Go into your system preferences and take a look at the CD and DVD prefs. Are any of those set to open IPhoto? If they are, you probably know what to do next....

Let me know if this works.

Good luck deleting iPhoto. I tried that a while ago and OSX wouldn't allow it. Looks like we're stuck with a bunch of these apps we use because the OS is programmed to have them.

If you right click on any picture on your system you'll get the Open With> option. In there you can select what you want to use. Same goes for music & videos. It's a work around but at least it'll stop the iWhatever programs from opening if you don't want them.

I deleted iPhoto with no issue. Deleting GarageBand, just the app, will not remove the shared resources (sounds, loops), it'll be safe. I've done that, too, and I use LPX.

Be aware that you may have to do this multiple times. The setting seems to be remembered on a per camera basis. When you plug in a memory card containing images taken on a different camera iPhoto will pop up again. It took me a while to get all of my cameras set to NO APPLICATION.
