Final Cut Studio X-good or bad?

Hi All,

Forgive me, I am not the most technical person on this the 3rd rock from the sun.. As I see it there should be no problems with combining into 1 larger App called Final Cut Studio X, the apps Logic, FCP, Livetype, Motion and Compressor and a reworked Color..

Everyone says it is not a good idea.. Why is it not a good idea? Lets discuss roundtripping, it was in the previous version of Studio, where you could round trip to soundtrack, color, livetype, etc.. So what is roundtripping???

As I see it from a non technical background, this round trip device is nothing more than an automated way to perform a series of thankless tasks to get data in 1 form to be converted into a language the destination app understands, the use of XML and other magic forms of code allow this to happen and everyone misses it..

So today we do not have this wonderful automation, we have to use old school, boring save as XML and 3rd party apps to achieve the same end, so what happens, editing slows down...

So if there was a "house" that had a common language that could handle the back and forward translation from say FCP to Motion, without the boring non automatic steps, this would be better??

So what is the problem? As a new user in Final Cut X, having played around with 6/7, with the round tripping, the wonderful add-on's of Color and so on, with round tripping, life was much better... I cannot for the love of pears understand why people are so angry with me when I mention a combined app?

Is it cause you bought the apps as single apps, then if there was a re-release of Final Cut it would be as a combined power app, you would feel a bit out of pocket?? It cannot be that, no, you all pay the monthly demand to Avid or Adobe or both..So money is not the issue..

No I think it is something else, maybe I hit a nerve, if I did, good, glad it hurts, it should.. I am annoyed and quite frankly ashamed at the attitude of some folks that have the ear of Apple.. Why why for the love of oranges is Color not an app we use with X? There are a number of ways to make it work, sandbox a 32bit code into 64bit, "fool" the app into thinking it is 64bit, for a start, at least get it out and into beta testing..

Many folks go on about the lack of decent color, there above 1 paragraph back, a non technical person's silly solution...

A better solution would be to spend a sum of cash, say $1billion, buy Resolve, or whoever makes it, re-purpose into 64bit language of FCP X, there you now have a rock solid solution for color, what do you know, not 1, but 2 viable do-able great solutions, the folks at Resolve know what they are doing, and they do it well, frankly better than the crew doing the color portion of FCP X, the square board..

I have no idea how to code, or even where to start, I would love to be able to pick apart the internals of the old 3 way color wheel in 6/7 aka classic fcp and see how it could be re coded to fit into cocoa or chocolate or caffeine, or whatever this code FCP X and Yosemite uses..

Final Cut Studio X is not only a better way to work, it is the best solution for a number of problems, it cuts out the issue with going from app to app...Apps could be coded into FCP X, Steve Martin and the tall one, go one about how Compressor is great for certain tasks, but for others, it is best to use the power of FCP, to render off the time line instead of Compressor..

Again, why???? Why 2 apps? Why is Compressor limited? Would it make sense to have it as an internal app, that could be used by both Motion and FCP?

If Resolve is now part of FCP Studio X, then we have even more power, maybe even be able to run both apps and drag and drop from one to the next, like we can from the finder into FCP X??

No one talks of this, why? I care less about what people think, I know my karma score will reach triple digits within a day of this post, that shows that people read my words, disagree, if you do, why do you think it is a bad idea??

I cannot see any problems with a combined app, that takes less time to do stupid tasks, the VUG mentioned a number of times, over a number of broadcasts, issues, how they miss features in STP, Motion, FCP..

What I do not see is any pressure or any blogs, comments like what I am saying, why not have sandboxed versions of livetype, soundtrack pro? There are problems with FCP X in regards RAM and this is not cured by shoving more into the machine, if you can in fact add RAM...

We have ourselves to blame, we do not voice our displeasure of dumb designs, we all go yay, and buy what is frankly stupid and badly designed equipment.. Hard soldered RAM, unable to replace hard drives, faulty Solid State Drives, underpowered laptops that scream out for more RAM.. Apple dish out and we just accept, why do we accept this?? I never did, from day 1 voiced my anger about the workings of Jony Ive, and his love affair with solder.. For ipads, yes, for Mac Airs, yes, NOT for Macbook PRO , note the PRO..I thought Pro was short for professional..My retina 2013 macbook pro is way short of being a professional device..

One last point, how much code is duplicated within the various apps we all use? 256GB hard drive is almost full of nothing but apps, Final Cut uses a fair portion, then the added sound effects library, and in case of emergency, Classic...

I have so many ideas I could overburden you.. So please calmly explain why a combined app is worse than stand alone aps??

Thanks

This is only my opinion but it seems to me like it's the way Apple is taking.

What's brilliant in FCPX is that you need motion very little because you can do so much inside it, with the help of a few plugins.

LPX will certainly see its compatibility increase more and more with FCPX in the coming years.

Also, that's what Resolve is doing and they'll have to compete against this newcomer on the market.

BUT it takes a lot of time. Probably 5 to 10 years.

Just my 2 cents.

Blackmagic are doing pretty much exactly what you're describing, and the lite version of Resolve is free. They even have a node based compositing solution called Fusion, also free. Here's the link www.blackmagicdesign.com . They run on PC so you can save some money and not have soldered hardware.

No one minds an idea, it's the long rambling posts which are tiresome, especially when typing 'resolve' into google would have solved your problem.

No one talks about this because generally people know the inherent issues with trying to bundle too much code into a single piece of software. You can not like it or not believe it but it's true.

I am not saying that Final Cut is the only app, I am trying and I guess badly to get my point across that we do not need stand alone apps, we need a suite of apps, like classic was, apps that could run alone, yet were linked with a common translator.

It would be so great to right click-send to Logic, and roundtrip back to FCP, or a resolve like app, much like Shake was..

We all moan the lack of roundtripping, this was a vital part of every day editing, you did not have to waste time doing saving, XML imports, none of that, just to change titles or fix a incorrect color balance..

The big hitters in Final Cut Pro editing, are silent on this point, yes Ripple Training mentioned 10 missing aspects or feature requests...Round tripping was one...And I think Color board improvements..

Color was re coded to work with FCP 6/7, so why not at least try and get it to work, if I was in the coding business, and I knew my cocoa from my dos, I would put out a beta version.. Just a thought could a 3 way color corrector setup from Classic be coded in Swift???

The point is not to have 1 giant app with rooms/tabs, not like the Color setup from 6/7, NO..just linked by a common base code that allows for round tripping and other tasks..

Just noticed..-1 karma point 54 to 55...

Yes there needs to be roundtripping.

Can we leave this thread there please, the same points keep coming up.

Yeah, I mean.. how hard could it be?

Just because we don't have it doesn't mean it's not coming. You want is a time machine to get past all that niggly development and design so it just works. Awesome!

Can I do the same thing with my retirement savings? I'd love all that money and freedom now. Why can't I have it? F***! I have to make that money over years!?

Dammit!

Submit your feature request to Apple- besides that it's up to FCPX's developers what they're plan is for the software.

If you don't like their schedule or their ideas- then there are other products on the market. Adobe has a tightly integrated suite of apps. Please investigate them to see if they'll suit your needs.

The reason your karma goes down is you seem incapable of making a valid, albeit boring, point without writing a manifesto. No one discusses round tripping because it's been talked to death already.
