Rendering issues with .MTS file

I have been forced to work with some orphan .MTS files. I have worked successfully with a few of them but I just now tried two ways to import one of the files into FCPX -- both as a proxy file and with neither proxy nor optimized file clicked so I could just import the original file. But after transcoding and then pulling the file down onto the timeline to edit, the rendering field in the Background Tasks, just stays at O percent, blinking on and off. If I try to share the file onto my desktop I get a "Share Failed" video rendering error message. This was not happening with the earlier ,MTS files I was editing, which I was able to edit and share successfully either by importing proxy or original files. Any thoughts as to what I am doing wrong?

Hi, another method would be using ClipWrap to rewrap the file and hopefully improve the importing process. I've had issues with MTS files on import. Maybe this can help stabilize things. It does cost $50 though. I find it a valuable tool in dealing with MTS files. It's nice because it doesn't transcode, it simply rewraps it so FCP likes it, so there's no quality loss like with re-encoding it. Best of luck!! Link to Clipwrap

does QTplayer app playback the original mts?

Basically, a mts is just a wrapped h.264, so no rocket-science to handle it.
The free tool REMUX (not avail on the original dev. page anymore, but at the usual sources), can re-wrap mts too...

My assumption is, it is somehow 'corrupted' -which is easy with orphaned mts, it could be, it belongs to another one, and the GOP-structure is 'off standards'; then, a simpel repackaging doesn't work.

if I remember correctly, the combo of Perian+MpegStreamclip does open mts, and allows a 'timecode fix'... give that a try. (without Perian, MSC does not handle mts)

and, finally from the Bag of Hurt:
eww.pass.panasonic.co.jp/pro-av/support/...restorer/agree_e.htm
.. claims to re-enact a fully intact AVCHD-structure from orphaned mts... in hope, it fixes any 'issues'....

I am not sure if your problem has been solved or not. Those"orphan'mts files may not have the correctly structure. It may pretty difficult for you to import those files into your FCPX. And even successfulily import them into your fcpx, the trans-coding progress may cause problem. Maybe you can try some converter apps to convert them into another codec or format, like prores, apple intermedia codecs. Hope it may help you.
p.s. some free converter apps: Handbrake , Mpeg Streamclip(someone in this thread mentioned before),ffMPEG, free mts/m2ts converter from Pavtube.
Hope after the conversion, some inner bugs can be fixed . Good luck !
