FCPX changing backgrounds of png images to black in timeline.

When I import an image to fcpx (png files)and then drag it into the timeline it seems to change the white background of these images to black! Does anyone know how to fix this, is it because they are being dragged over gap clips?

The white in the PNG file is probably transparency. In FCP transparency is represented as black. Put a white generator underneath it.

Does the generator go on the timeline first and then do I add the image?

It doesn't matter as long as the generator is underneath the PNG.
