Exchange music without loosing edit decisions was created by Brinky
Hi,
I normally use music with a watermark to show it to the customer. When they agree I buy the music. Then I replace everything with the new track. This is a lot of work. Is their a simple way to replace the old track for the new one keeping all edit decisions?

Aside from Replace edits? Hmmm... I don't really think so, unless some relink method would work.
I've done this once before, and I put my audio watermark as a separate clip. Then just muted it when exporting the final product. You can give the audio watermark it's own Role, then mute it before exporting.

If the watermarked file and the actual purchased music match up for FCPX (exact same duration, etc.) then you can just relink the media.
A more reliable method (in case the music supplier does not provide a 1:1 exact copy for the watermarked file) is to create a compound clip at the very beginning with the temp track and edit using that. Then, you can manually plop the final music into the compound clip, make sure it lines up, and then your music edits remain intact.

I tried it with relinking. This works, the clip only stays in the original folder. Have to figure out how to solve this.

When you have relinked an imported clip to a new file that has not been imported into the Library you just need to Consolidate your Library. This will move the new file to your Original Media folder (if your Library is managed) or to your external media folder (if your Library points to external media).
