I've used a graphic(.png file) at the start of a project, I've transformed it to fit the fcpx window but it's stretched a little, how do I fix this, all other moving images where shot with a Canon MK II.

When you use Transform > Scale X or Y it is obvious that you will stretch the still horizontally (x) or vertically (y).

If you want to completely fit a still into your project frame without stretching it you can select the still (without any Transform applied to it) and in the Inspector set Spatial Conform to "Fill". Then you can use the Transform > Position tools to further reframe the still if you wish.

I've done this but in some of the images filling it to screeen means it cuts the top off some of the figures in the images, anything to be done about this or will I have to change the original image??

You can reposition the image vertically. If that does not work this means your images are much too long with respect to the dimensions of your video. In this case there are only two solutions:

If the background of the image is solid you can put a solid color generator under it in FCP X and make it the same color as the background of the image.

If the background is complex you will have to use Pixelmator or Photoshop to modify the image so it fits in your video frame. You can isolate the figures so you can stretch the background horizontally without stretching the figures.
