Stabilization and multicam clips was created by DmitriZigany
Hey!
So I have a multicam clip on the timeline, I make my edits. And I want to apply stabilization on some of them... Only to see it's not possible. You have to go in the angle editor and apply it to the entire angle... problem is, it's 5 minutes long... So the stabilisation looks like crap because the movements within that clip varies too much. Besides cutting up the clip in the angle, is there a way to add stabilisation to only part of the angle? Preferably the edit in the timeline?

Hi Dimitri
First of all I need to say it's rather logical that you cannot apply stabilization to a multicam clip, but I'm sure you understand why.
FCPX stabilization is, in my opinion, not very interesting: it zooms a lot and, as you pointed out, it's an ON or OFF parameter, which creates the following problem:
- if you cut your clip in the angle, you will have a sudden zoom when the stab starts, and then a sudden zoom out when it ens.
There is a solution though, but you'd require a plugin. Lock & Load from Coremelt is absolutely great and I use it often in cases like your (and it's much faster and zooms much less than FCPX).
The advantage of using it is that you can keyframe the parameters of the stabilization, so you start only when you want your stab, and then go back to 0 when you want to end, without having to cut your clip.
I am not aware of any other solution, there might be one though. In any case if you use stabilization often Lock & Load is totally worth it.
Good luck
Manu

Thanks.
I was expecting it to be possible though as ypu can adjust everything else (colour etc) both in the Angle Editor AND on the timeline. Cannot see a reason for Stabilization not to work as well. Very annoying.
Stabilization is a bit hit and miss, but my experience is that the shorter clip you apply it to, the better it works. That's why I would like to be able to apply it to just the part in the edit on the timeline.

I work with tons of Multicam & have come across this problem so I kept trying to get around the limitation & here's what I've come up with.
Goal:
Find the In/Out Timecode of the clip that needs to be stabilized. Isolate that section in Angle Editor & apply Stabilization.
6 STEP MULTICAM STABILIZATION WORKAROUND:
(Keyboard shortcuts are in parenthesis.)
1. In the Timeline (Cmd + 2), 'Select Clip' (C).
2. While the clip is highlighted, 'Reveal In Browser' (Shift + F).
3. The 'Browser' will highlight that portion of the Multicam Clip. Zoom in ~10s (Cmd + '+'), depending on the clip length you are trying to find.
4. While in the 'Browser' & with Snapping on (N), hover the cursor over the 'In' point to show Timecode in the middle of FCPX or and remember that (write it down, whatever) & the same for the 'Out' point.
5. While in 'Browser', double click on the Multicam to load the 'Angel Editor' in the Timeline,
6. While in the Angle Editor, 'Move Playhead Position' (Cntrl + P) & type in the Timecode for the 'In' point. Then, Blade (Cmd + B ) the 'In' point & repeat with the 'Out' Point for the appropriate 'Angle'.
Now you may apply Stabilization to that portion of the clip.
Good Luck.

HI not sure if this helps, but I"m looking at a tutorial and the author states you can click on the multicam clip to separate the clips and then you can do any adjustments you want.
So I think you might be able to blade the clip then separate then adjust and then re-combine.
