Long upload to Youtube due to .MTS files possibly? was created by Douglaseye
I just spent six hours uploading to YouTube a 33-minute video made from output from a Canon camera of orphaned .MTS files. Could that be the reason for such a gruesomely long upload, FCPX having to transcode .MTS files? I couldn't even get the video to upload from home through my DSL line -- it kept pooping out at 50 percent and failing. Had to use my company's faster wireless connection, but still took that long. And this was a private project so I can't use my company's line and I have more of these to do. Can anyone suggest another reason why such an upload should take so long? Here's the video, if it makes any difference -- it's from a series of Buddhist talks at a monastery. The quality looks OK:

Try exporting a master file in H.264 and uploading that to YouTube using their web site upload procedure.

my assumption: you're uploading the Master File of your project? ... which is, due to its proRes422 codec, a few gigatons of data :woohoo:
What Tom says:
Export using a compressing setting (e.g. 'AppleTV' creates small/good quality files) ...

No, Karsten, I was trying to upload the file out of FCXP direct to Youtube. The 33-minute file created a 2.5 MG which took six hours to upload.
Tom, I had the same idea, but when trying to export the video as a master file set to H.264 at a resolution of 1920 X 1080 it creates a file that's 4.83 GB big. Yikes. And when I try to export it as an Apple Devices 720p, it creates an .m4v file, which YouTube choked and gave up on when I tried to upload it. I am not getting something as I see lots of videos that are half-hour and hour-long on YouTube.
