Transitions between still photos produce an unwanted flicker effect

Hi there,

I'm really hoping someone can address this issue, because I've spent a lot of time researching online, to no avail.

In short, ~25% of the time I add a transition -- notably, cross dissolve and fade to color -- between two still photos, I get a buggy effect where the project appears to flicker back and forth between the two. I've noticed this is, for some, an intended effect, but all I'm looking for is a smooth transition from one to the next. Sometimes this effect goes away if I use a different photo, or adjust the duration of the still and/or the transition itself. But these are time-sucking "solutions" that I'd rather not have to pursue, if possible.

I hope it's an easy fix, in which case I'd be sorry to waste your time.

Best,
Nick

What are the project properties? Do you see this after you render the transition? Can you post a short section on YouTube or Vimeo?

Hi Tom,

Here are the project properties:
- 1080p HD
- 1920x1080
- 30p
- Stereo
- 48kHz
- Apple ProRes 422

I recorded the flickering with my phone, because it only happens sporadically in a few spots of a much larger project (which I didn't feel comfortable sharing in its entirety). The link to that can be found here:
. Note that it only happens in between the last two photos (from the Golden Gate bridge to the street signs).

Lastly, yes, it occurs even after I render.

The most frustrating part about it is that it doesn't seem to happen with any rhyme or reason...but hopefully you or someone else can correct that assumption!

Thank you so much for your help,
Nick

You don't have to export the whole project. Just Mark in and out points in the timeline to export a section.

How large are the image files? Format? You should use image files that aren't much larger than the Project resolution, and use PNG. If you're using something like an 18 megapixel or larger DSLR RAW stills that might be causing problems.

Weird.

And what format are the photos? PSD? TIFF? JPEG?

Have you tried to create a new project, put the photos in the timeline, and some cross dissolves?

Also are you adding a crossdisolve AND fade to color? I'm not even sure you can do this but if you can maybe that is affecting it.

Also are their enough "frames" at the two connecting points between the transitions for the transition to do it's thing?
