Hi all, I was recently working on a project when I disconnected the wrong USB from my mac and took out the external HD my FCP project was rendering to

I can still see and load up all of my work from the HD, but it crashes FCP every time i try to load any of the projects.

Can anyone help me with this dumb mistake?

Running FCP X (10.1.3) on Mac OS X(10.9.5) with Mavericks

thank you in advance

Run Disk Utility to repair the drive.
Hopefully you had FCPX's backup process running. You could go to your backups folder, find something like the second to last backup, and open that.

Thanks for replying Ben. I have used the disk utility function and it did not seem to help. Never thought about the back ups though, great idea!

Thanks again!!

Exactly the same thing happened to me last night - a usb drive accidentally disconnected and FCP X has been a nightmare ever since. Freezes and crashes repeatedly. I deleted FCP X and the App Store did an update on it and has not re-installed it on my system (it's not in Applications) but it still opens from the App Store and by clicking on a library. I have a deadline and am really at a loss. External disc, a WD Passport for Mac, is fine.

Having a drive disconnect while working can corrupt the current working file. This can cause lots of problems.
As Ben said try to open the project from a library backup. This should get you up and running.
You can also try shutting down your computer (clears cruff from system) then restart FCP while holding down the command & option(Alt) key to clear FCPX preferences.
Open project via library.
Hopefully, you will not need to re-install FCPX or OS.

Brenda, If you reinstalled FCPX from the App Store it should be there. It may have installed on a different page if you are using the F4 key. Also can use Spotlight (Command + spacebar) and it should be there and launch. Yes/No?

Not sure what you mean that you can open FCP from App Store (not actually possible AFAIK).
If you can open via Library, then App is installed.
While program is opened, right click on the FCP icon in your dock, click on "options" then click "Keep In Dock". You should now be able to launch from dock icon.

Hope this helps, Greg

Thankfully the App Store finally showed 'install' for FCP X, and once that was done, everything opened and stayed open perfectly. I did copy the library that kept crashing from the ext hdd to my iMac as well, and that seems to have stabilized it. No idea what actually caused the problems, but the issue is now resolved. Thank you.
