Been holding off getting Compressor 4 because I still need FCP 7 and Compressor 3. Does anyone know if it coexist with Compress 4 on the same partition without any problems?

(My FCP 7 is doing just fine on the same partition with FCP X.)

I have no problem using Compressor 3.5 and Compressor 4 on the same machine and partition. In fact I find using compressor 4 for just media encodes and not sending from Final Cut Pro 7 or X, Compressor 4 is faster than Compressor 3.5. On my laptop it says it is using the GPU in addition to the CPUs for encoding.

Hope that helps

Same here, both co-existing on the same boot drive. I have ported all of my 3.5 custom presets over to 4 and no problem.

i had the same concern at the time of purchasing compressor 4. Most everybody gave the idea the stamp approval and i got both on my system. Then troubles started on my clusters !

The long story short : If you are clustring of any kind for your compressor and rendering you must disable the Qmaster in the previous version and reset your clusters with the built in Qmaster in compressor 4. That said i had to do a lot of experimenting ( again ) with this revision of Qmaster to rebuild my clusters.

And yes compressor 4 uses 64 bit processing in some operations and it is faster.
