I see the Boris BCC Film Style plugin is on sale, 50% discount.
Downloaded the demo, tried some of the effects and though the plugin seems a bit heavy in render times on my late 2012 iMac (i7, 16GB Ram and 2Gb GPU) I surely could use several of the tools it has to offer, - especially Film Glow and Film Process, -- but would like to ask here if there are better alternatives out there before pulling the trigger.

Well, did some more testing of this plugin. Tried to transcode my AVCHD footage to ProRes to see if that helped to achieve faster render times. Didn´t help. Thinking about it I have never used a plugin that slow before, not even Neat Video. Anyway, I will not buy the BCC FilmStyle.

A long while ago I beta tested BCC 8 and found much of it was dog slow. That was just as I remembered it with BCC 5 some years back which is why I stopped upgrading. I was thinking of moving to 9 since they dropped the upgrade price but, from your description, it sounds like it's still tediously slow.

@cseeman
Thanks for your answer. On a 5 sec clip I measured the rendertime to 30 sec
it seems on longer clips the render time gradually gets even worse,

That sounds very much like the tediously long times I saw as well. It really makes what would be a very nice filter set practically unusable in deadline driven professional environments.

Here I found a useful workflow to show you how to deal with your AVCHD in your FCP. Hope it will help.
