Editing Video Audio Only was created by Bluebicycle
I hope this isn't a daft question, as my knowledge of X isn't massive, but given that the paradigm is all about containers on the timeline and not tracks, be it Storyline segments, compound clips, multicam clips or connected clips, why, when audio editing is disabled for a clip doesn't it just edit in the audio, but disabled or muted? That way if you do need it later it's already there. You would never have to match frame the audio in later, but simply enable it in the timeline. Especially useful for B Roll connected clips where audio isn't a consideration until the fine cut.

Sorry thought the question was implicit: "why, when audio editing is disabled for a clip doesn't it just edit in the audio, but disabled or muted?"
In other words always include the audio in the timeline regardless of selection, especially for connected clips, and instead use the selection button, i.e. Video only, to mute or disable it. That way the audio can easily be retrieved later if necessary, by re-enabling, like you can in the Inspector for determining which tracks to hear, mono/stereo etc.

You can do that. Don't edit video only (SHIFT-2) unless you're absolutely sure you don't need the audio. Disable/Enable channels in the timeline by either disabling components or in the inspector (for the clip in the timeline). Easy.
Looking at your response... just disable the audio in the source clip using the inspector, and always edit in A/V (SHIFT-1). Then you can enable what you want in the timeline.
So to answer your question "why, when audio editing is disabled for a clip doesn't it just edit in the audio..."
--Because you've told the app to edit video only
...but disabled or muted?"
--As above, disable in the source and cut in both V and A for the clip (SHIFT -1)

Thanks, yes I see that would work, but you would need that extra step, for each edit you make, to untick in the inspector or expand out and disable in the timeline. I suppose my logic was the selection buttons could do it for you in a onner.
Once some muscle memory kicks in I'm sure its pretty quick, and infinitely faster than any track based NLE. Thanks again
