Workflow question: multicam clip & audio was created by mobiletaylor
Few workflow questions. I have a project I”m working on with 5 camera angles and one audio clip from a zoom. The event was about an hour long. I need to edit it down to about 30 minutes. I also want to do some audio work in an extern program. What would be the best workflow for something like this?
1 - sync multicam
2 - edit multicam clip
3 - cut out sections of multicam clip (should I first make this a compound clip or can I just use the blade tool on the multicam clip?)
4 - export audio track for external editor
5 - edit audio
6 - import audio and drop into project (disable audio for mulitcam clip)
7 - export movie.
Does this sound correct? At what point should the audio work be done?
Thanks for any help with this!

Hi James,
This seems to be a valid workflow. You cut the multiclip first, then you cut and delete portions of the edited multiclip to make your program the desired length. As your zoom audio is part of your multiclip the audio will be cut together with the video.
Then you do an audio-only export from the final edit and you sweeten the exported audio file in your external program. Do NOT edit the audio file, i.e. do not cut out parts or modify the length, this will blow the audio out of sync with your video.
Finally you export the sweetened audio to a final audio file and you add the final audio under your multicam edit. The only thing you still need to do now is to detach the original audio from the multicam edit and to delete the detached original audio.
ALTERNATIVE:
You also can sweeten the zoom audio in the external audio program BEFORE you create the mutlicam clip and use the improved audio in the mutliclip.
This way you have perfect audio from the start before you start cutting, and you just have to export the edit when you have cut the multiclip to its desired length.
