I'm just curious as to whether or not its possible to recreate this coloring in FCPX ?
Also I had a question in regards to the fade to black feature in fcpx. I've tried using it with a gap clip, as well as adjusting and keyframing it but there just does not seem to be a lot of functionality with it. The kind of fades I want to achieve are in this video but it seems almost impossible to achieve with just the regular transition. I've even tried keyframing the opacity on just the clip and I can never get the fades just right. I have even used some of Alex plugins like gamma and brightness but it seems impossible to just get that slight fade.

This is an overlapping crossfade/fade-to-black type of transition. Not sure if there is one already available, but would be easy to create in Motion as an FCPX template. I may look at doing that.
To do this manually, have the clips overlap each other (one in the Storyline, one Connected). Then put the cross dissolve on each. Have one fade in while the other fades out, AND have them overlap so you aren't getting a full black in-between the two.

Yes, But it would be much easier and be much more precise (i.e. look better) if you do it in Resolve.
Here's what I see happening in this clip:
1-Everything desaturated to blue and white, except of for skintones.
2-Add contrast, clip/roll off whites.
3-Pull all skintones towards orange, then desaturate
4-And probably the most unique aspect, all the blacks are clipped up from the bottom into blueish grey around 20IRE, and then a vignette on top of that aspect so it plays like a gradient. Resolve has a channel clip panel where this is easy to setup, but FCPX...much more twiddly. It's not just raising the blacks until they are milky. It's throwing away all detail below like 20IRE and leaving things there.
This all would be pretty straightforward work in Resolve, but would be a tricky mishmash mix of the color panel and levels filters in FCPX. The more operations you stacking FCPX, the more unwieldy it gets, and tools like a levels filter sometimes just do not have the precision to keep you from going nuts.

Thanks a lot Ben really appreciate it! Seems a lot more simple than the method I was using. And yes if someone were to make an actual transition like this it'd be great. I'm just getting to know the inner workings of FCPX and much more ignorant when it comes to Motion. @Direktor, is it possible to transfer clips back and forth between fcpx and resolve ?

I don't think Resolve is necessary. I'd go with Hawaiki Color or MBLooks or something in side of FCPX.
I've made a transition in Motion to do the basics of that type of transition, just not sure how to rig it so there's some control over it, once inside FCPX. I may just be a very basic, static transition.

any chance that transition is out yet? Still frustrated with the fades in FCPX.
