To Many Plugins, how to start fresh?

As the sign says. I have just to many and I don't use even half of them. Most were free...but more toy than tool.

I took the Motion Templates folder out of the Movies folder and place it on desktop. Then reinstalled FCPX, thinking it would create new Motion Templates folder....which it did...yet still shows all the fluff. What gives? How do I start from scratch?

Well never mind I went and deleted the folders in question and presto! Clean slate. Not without some trepidation though

You are a lot braver than I. I wish there was an easy way to manage Plugins. Between the good free ones and the ones I have via FxFactory it is a mess. Thats what I need is a plugin to manage plugins!

FxFactory allows to enable disable plugins - just open the FxFactory.app.

For the other ones it's more complicated. There might be 2 locations where plugins are installed. 1 is user, 1 is system.
For the user it's the standard one, for the system it is "/Library/Application Support/Final Cut Pro/Templates.localized".

You have to go thru the subfolders to remove the unwanted templates.

I use plugin manager included in Pro Maintenance tools from Digital Rebellion which works very well. But I miss the feature to delete plugins. I am a bit surpriced that no one has come up with application that can manage and delete unwanted plug ins. But maybe it is easier said than done.

FxPlug3 plugins are installed at the system level, not in the Motion Templates folder, making things a tad more complicated.

I am good with FxFactory, I only have the ones I Use enabled. I just wish there was a "show or hide" plugin like the very good event manager that went by the way side when we got 10.1 update. I will have to go look at Digital Rebellion.

Here is a possibility..
If you have a extra HDD, clone your system over to it and boot from it.
Go into the plugin folder/s and delete everything.
Boot up FCPX and see what you get.

I think that all the original FCPX filters and trans will remain.

Or you can delete only the ones you dont use and test out FCPX for any errors before doing the same to your main system HDD.

dkag7... I did just that actually. I deleted everything...however I put everything right back on from Time Machine backup. Everything worked again. So...gonna do it again then pick and choose from there. And the originals were there as well.

Otherwise someone mentioned the Event Manager plugin. i did speak with Phillip Hodgetts about it a while back when we were still able to use Event Manager. He said there are a lot of tricky bits under the hood to do so. Maybe I should revisit him about it.

I had to do that as well because I was making some tutorials on FCPX and needed to have just all the original filters and trans in there...
every thing seemed to work fine, but this was a while back 10.0.X something version..

I make many filters and titles in motion so I had to put everything back eventually because older projects were messing up looking for various titles (for the most part). I couldn't find a way to fix the errors other than putting in the originals back in.

This will certainly only get more complicated over time. Unless you're amazingly organized and/or keep everything. I hope Apple will come up with some sort of favorites system.

dkag7 - I had this happen with a certain plugin that had been updated but kept the same name. I was using the newer version with the same name (thinking it would just supersede the old one). As I went back to some old projects (before the updated version) the same effect was missing, yet there was the effect in my browser. It actually took a long time to figure that out. Even the developer had no idea what the problem was. Much later I thought of dropping the old version back in (keeping both) and it instantly worked.
