Is Matrox relevant anymore? was created by Jonathan Levin
Hi all.
I was wondering your opinions on whether or not you use a Matrox video box connected to a second monitor.
With FCP X is it even relevant? I think you can run a second display from within FCPX, but correct me if I'm wrong.
I have an MXO Mini 2, and I am just wondering if I should shelve it. I bought it for use in FCP 7 which did not have great second display options. It served well for that.
It does have some neat inputs/outputs. The only one I could think of using is the HDMI IN for recording direct from camera, but that only kind of works, at least with a Nikon D800e.
Fire away!

Hi Soundwise.
So without the MXO how are you connecting the second monitor to the computer? The only way to use HDMI is through the MXO but maybe using HDMI isn't necessary at this point Matrox is notoriously slow in their release updates and I wouldn't mind using less electricity, lessening hardware.
Thanks.

Mainly I use a 3 monitor setup: rMBP with a second monitor attached to TB port and a HDMI port to a HP Dreamcolor monitor for a fullscreen A/V output.

Thanks for that. Sooner or later I think I'll re-think my set-up.
I seldom if ever have used the addition in/out on the MXO. Well, I did hook up a vcr to capture some video a few times. But that was a while ago.
