Problems importing a XML file into FCPX 10.0.9 was created by bbrunner
Hi all,
I'm finalising a film. The translator who prepares the subtitles in English - he is using Belle Nuit - sent me a XML file of some dummy subtitles to establish that our planned workflow will work. Unfortunately FCPX doesn't see or even recognises the XML file (.xml) he sent me as such.
Are their known problems with importing XML files into FCPX?
Any ideas anyone?
Thanks,
Benny

Yes, full support for closed-captioning and sub-titles would be great.
In the meantime, because of how FCP handles things, XML data doesn't match a lot of things directly. You may want to try out 7toX.
Or, Andreas would actually know better what to do with this. He's the CC guy.

Benny,
The XML probably is a FCP XML. As Ben said you might use 7toX but beside the time and money you will loose a lot of settings the translator might have done.
He should send you a subrip srt (UTF-8, Unix linefeed) which easily can be done with Belle Nuit. From there you can use my X-Title Importer which creates a XML which easily can be used with FCP X.
It can be downloaded here: www.spherico.com/filmtools/TitleExchange/XTI/index.html
Read a bit of the manual to understand the options.

Thank you Andreas.
Yes, I'm using 7toX.
The translator and I spent the better part of the day trouble shooting the problem with a minor success; I've managed to import his dummy subtitles into FCPX but the subtitles files show only black - no text.
We'll follow your advice. My question, I'll have first to use your X-Title Importer to convert his XML file into another XML file that FCPX can read - did I get it right?
Have a nice weekend.
