Export settings for tv, flickery with prores 422

Hi!

I`ve done some testing on my Movie. Its shot on DV (720/576)

I tried to share to masterfile, and I picked prores 422. I Connected my mac to tv, via hdmi cable, and played it in QT. The quality was crap - flickery.

Then I did redid it, but I picked DV instead of prores; I Connected to my mac, cia hdmi cable, and played it in QT - Ok result..

So, as I understand the prores will show both Fields (interlaced) when showed in QT. DV will just display one Field, and thats why I dont have flickery crappy result from this option.

SO MY QUESTION:

What do I do to get best result, when showing a Movie from my mac, via hdmi cable to my tv? Should I use another player than QT? Should I do anything to my prosject settings? Should I do something With the masterfile, to prepare it for tv screening? Hope you can help.

What are your project settimgs? How are you playing DV from your Mac, are you mirroring it through HDMI? If you're playing it full screen on the Mac you're scaling up the DV enormously.

Yeah, I`m mirroring, With full screen on my mac. Whats the best way playing this from mac?

My project settings are based on my first Clip, so I havn`t checked. I`ll do later today.

What should I be aware off? Could my project settings cause the interlace problematics, seeing both fields, especially when Objects are moving?

Your media is probably interlaced so your project probably is as well. You should edit in a 25p project if you want to remove the interlacing. Open the export file in the QT player and set it to normal size. That will show you how much you're blowing it up to fill the screen.

OK -should I set the project to progressive, if it's not interlaced on 25p?
So, whats my best option, screening it to a tv, via my mac?

If the project properties are 25i use modify settings to change to 25p.

To be honest there is no good way to play SD video from a Mac to a TV but ProRes 25p will give you the best option.

Problem is you're going full screen on the Mac. That blows the SD video up a LOT in size. That brings in a significant degradation in image quality. I use QT7Pro Player, and use View > Present Movie, then set it to "Actual Size". That has always given the best possible video quality for me.

QTX doesn't have that option, unfortunately.

Yeah, your Mac screen is well beyond SD video resolution, full screen will not be your best choice.

DVD = more compression, but, depending on the duration, it may work out ok.

Try it with the export file and see how it looks to you. Export the 25p project in ProRes and see how it looks full screen.

OK - but I can buy a QT7 pro player? And do the same. Because that will fill up the tv screen?
Probably stupid question - but I have to Ask to get closerto my finish line

You can buy the QT pro player but I don't think you need it.
