Help on dvcam tapes was created by fb_500643191
I'm not very computer savvy but I am required to create a final cut pro editing booth. We used to have AVID and are upgrading all our equipment to digital. The major obstacle I am having is all of our old projects were pulled from DV Cams. Which was easy in AVID because we had a DVCAM player that would capture straight to the program.
So far our new configuration is the IMac and final cut pro installed. I have already edited a few videos that we recorded digitally using an AJA recorder. However, we want to archive all of our old tapes and do not want to use the AVID anymore. We have a DVCAM play with a DVI port but I don't know how I can transfer that to FCP using the thunderbolt cable. We pretty much have an unlimited amount of money to make this happen but I don't really know what is needed. If anyone has any experience with tape decks (not the camera) and putting it on FCP, that would be very helpful. Thank you.

The DVCAM deck should have a FireWire port. You can get a FireWire to Thunderbolt adaptor. Capturing tape in FCP is pretty primitive. You have to control the deck manually and capture on the fly.

I'm very used to primitive since we have only ever used tape decks on Avid. It is annoying and I can feel going to be a LONG project but I think your suggestion will work. I didn't know our DVCAM DVR had a Firewire port. That solves all the issues. Thank you so much.
