Hi Everybody -
My wife made an award winning Documentary some years ago, and we want to do a sequel. The majority of the footage from the original is on 3/4in Tape. We have a Sony VP-7020 U-Matic Deck that we just had refurbished.
Basically, we're trying to figure out the best way to go from the 3/4in, through some converter, and digitize into FCPX.
These are some options we've thought about:
1. Have someone transfer it for us. REALLY expensive, no doubt
2. Go from the Deck -> TBC -> A/D converter-> external drive
3. Go from the 3/4in -> DV Cam-> external drive
I welcome any suggestions, from the wealth of knowledge and experience that resides in this forum.
Thanks!

Your U-matic is composite video output, correct?
If so an ADVC-55 -- www.grassvalley.com/products/advc55 -- will take the composite video and is not outrageously expensive. About $175 on Amazon. I have had issues importing with fcpx, but that may have been the crappy VHS tapes I was trying to convert. An older of version of iMovie captured the video that was there to capture just fine.

I wouldn't use a Composite to DV converter. The material will be more compressed than it needs.
I would use Decklink Intensity, it's more less same price, has more options and better quality.
