It's a shame the FCPX team didn't do this themselves -- as disappointed as I am in the pace of development at Apple, I would never ever buy anything again from the other company listed in the OP.

I'd never consider using something like this. Particle animations for me would be part of a more complicated composition in Motion.

They were caught up in a scandal a couple years ago repackaging content from MotionVFX and selling it as their own. It turned a lot of people off them, myself included.
