Past into main storyline

I put all my footage on the timeline. JKL to run through it. Blade tool when I find a clip to use. Option + Command + UpArrow to move it into secondary storyline. Seems to go pretty fast. I then want to select all the clips I moved up to the secondary storyline, copy, then paste into a new timeline so the clips go to the main storyline and ripple down. Is there a way to do this?
Thanks,
JT

There must be a way to past into a new project and have everything automatically ripple down?

That is completely ignoring the intended workflow of FCPX
Just j/k/l, and i/o in the Event, hit e to apply a project ... done.

Karsten,
Always open to working more efficiently. I gave your suggestion a quick try. I often need to go back and find a particular player/number and like having all my footage in front of me -- string out.
My first attempts with your method looked promising, but I would definitely need to get used to it. I went through your method: j/k/l then e. After adding all my selections from that clip I used the down arrow to move to the next clip to start again. But now my playhead starts at the last in-point last selected. What is the keyboard shortcut (or fastest way) to clear the selection so I can start from the beginning of each clip?
Thanks,
JT

It took me a while to get used to NOT having string outs. But I've learned that keywording and favoriting is a way to more easily find things. I won't be going back to string outs.

depends on where you are:
If you just added the selection of a clip to the project in the Event Browser, arrow-down brings you to the next clip.
If you - for whatever reason - have switched to the Project timeline, cmd-1 brings you back to the Event browser window, type ⬇︎, next clip ...
I think, my first post came over a bit rude - but not so intended! I've seen many FCPX-beginners apply a clip in-toto into the Projects Timeline, and start to chop it into pieces with the Blade ("blade is for cutting, hu?")
No, the idea, or concept is:
Step #0 (which comes BEFORE starting to edit...) Make selections of your material, by applying keywords = tagging. esp. on larger projects , the many automatisms and filter options of FCPX will instantly simplify selection.
Step #1: you select the material for your Project in the Events Browser. Using shortcuts make this a super-fast process (doing here weekly sports reports - the plain 'best of collection' is done in minutes <cough> half an hour ...
Step #2: now, in the Project Timeline, you start to refine things: perhaps rearrange clips, shorten clips on the fly, left/right bracket ] [ are your friend... or nudging with comma and period...
Being a FCPX beginner too, coming from iMovie, I never thought of using an editor with keyboard shortcuts nor 'both-handed'! Was used to use my mouse/MTP only. - But when you teach yourself the commands, you improve your editing skills by factor 100!

Have a read here to get a few suggestions, how pros do the keyboard-mambo...

... and believe it or not: You very rarely use the Blade in video-editing ...
