Hi

I have been asked to edit a conference with a fast turn around.I have to turn around each session of the conference and upload to YouTube whilst the next session is underway, with lower thirds and PowerPoint.

We will have a new MacPro 6 Core 3.6Ghz with 16Gb Ram and a AJA Io XT. I also have available AJA Kipro recorders and my MBP 2.3Ghz I7 16gb.

So my question is do I

A: Can I record directly into FCPX using the AJA Io XT then edit, not sure how I would edit the next session
whilst recording the last....

B: A/B the Kipro drives HOT swapping them as I go? This is the rack mount version with two drives.

C: I will also have a Promise Pegasus2 8Tb raid, can I connect both the MacPro and the Macbook Pro to the drive at the same time? reordering the footage on the laptop and edit on the desktop?

D: ??????????

Your thoughts would be appreciated

Are you wanting to edit 'Growing Files'? If so, you might find some ideas in these articles.

Well we have just ordered a new mac pro also ordered Sofron Movie Recorder. Had a long email exchange with them explaining the workflow. Testing will start next week sometime. Going to set up a camera in the studio here and do a 2 hour import (about a session length) then edit on the fly. Whilst exporting I will then start session 2.

So I will report back.

By that you mean keep the inspector closed during import? I edit mainly 1-2 hour conferences I have been doing that since I looked at the page from the Tour De France.

Thanks for the reminder.

Hi

And thanks for all the information.

Back from our first outing and all went well! Nearly I had to stop importing live as I was getting massive CPU use and beach ball in X and when the live import updated my timeline sometimes went offline. I am going to have a chat with Softron about this to see what I did wrong. I didn't have this in testing, it could have been that the I/O and raid were in the wrong ports. I copied the I/O from the Tour De France posting here when testing but I didn't set the equipment up onsite. I did give them a list of what and where.

But all in all it went well and the client and our director we blown away when they saw how fast I was able to upload at the end of each talk.

Hi all,

Been reading and watching from afar until now, learning lots from you guys along the way, but got a question I can't seem to find an answer to, or more probably an answer that I like!

I've got two basic camera's I can get a hdmi feed out of and would like a way to be able to ingest that into my mac live so I can edit a growing multi cam file. I see that there's the Softron route, but that's beyond my league, so wondering if anyone knows of a cheaper solution or workaround at all?

It's just a little job for a friend, but if I could save the time to have to wait before editing that'd be great, but I'm suspecting there may not be a workaround/cheap solution.

Thanks,
Paul
