Is it possible to replace a pice of music in the timeline and keep all the audio keyframes (levels adjusted so you can hear a voiceover)

I tried using the 'audition' route but it doesn't keep any of the keyframes levels i have set?

anyone know if this can be done?

Thanks

If you select your original piece of music with the keyframes and copy it (cmd c) then select your new piece of music in the timeline and paste attributes (shift cmd v) and select levels, this should copy your keyframe adjustments to your new clip.

Another technique for future is to make your music track a compound clip and apply any keyframes to the compound clip, then if you want to change the music you can just add your new track to your compound clip, disable the original track in the compound and because you've applied the keyframes to the compound clip itself it will now effect your new piece of music. I find this just saves a few clicks in the long run.

Hope this makes sense, good luck!

No problem. The more you play with compound clips the more you realise they can do.

You can also select your audio, copy it, then replace with the new audio, select that new clip, Paste Attributes with Volume selected (and/or Pan). Pay attention to the "Keyframes" setting at the bottom of the screen.

Is there not a way I can use the 'audition' facility to listen to 2 tracks with the same keyframes in or do i have to copy the keyframes over from one track to the second first? (if that makes sense)

Audition does not copy anything to anything else, period. It is a simple, though specialized, virtual container of stuff you put in to it.

You could do the Paste Attributes either before or after creating an Audition.

Thanks BenB

so would you open up the audio in its now timeline and copy and paste the keyframes then add it to main timeline as part of an audition clip?

Make the audition.
Add both clips.
Make clip 1 (keyframes already) the active one.
Select, Cmd-A to copy.
Make clip 2 (not keyframes yet) the active one.
Select, Paste Attributes, keyframes.

Or, do it before you make the Audition.

Half dozen to one, six to another.
