EXTEND duration of multiple clips

I know there's a way to do this but I'm looking for something more specific than "make 5 clips the length of X amount of time".
check out the picture: imgur.com/KWdV3DT
I want to extend the length of all 5 or 6 clips to match the clip above them, making them neatly line up like the clips on the left. I do this edit a lot and I don't know the exact amount of time to change the duration of the clips without it taking more time than just dragging each damn clip slightly to the right so they all line up.
So it's "EXTEND multiple clips simultaneously" that I'm wondering. Thanks!

Hi Ryan, and welcome to the forum

Group extending is not possible yet but it's a popular request. So use the Feedback page to ask for this feature. I'm sure it's high on the list for a next feature update.

As well as asking for new features, I think it helps people in the Final Cut team if you describe how the UI of such a feature would work.

In some very old applications it is possible to use mathematical operations in some number fields.

In this case the request to Apple would be along the lines of "When setting durations and choosing edit points, it would be helpful to be able to use mathematical operators. For example I would like to copy the duration of a long clip, select five shorter clips and make their combined duration match the long clip by pressing command-D to open the duration field, command-V to paste the duration of the long clip, pressing / for divide and 5 for the number of clips and pressing return or enter."

That goes hand-in-hand with the idea that the ability to copy and paste timecode would be useful.

Hey guys,

So there actually is a way to do this. I found it out by accident as I was looking for a solution. Check it out:

If you go to Final Cut Pro > Commands > Customize you'll see a keyboard and if you type ']' key to the left of '\' the action of what we're trying to do is called Select Right Edge.

So in the timeline if you place your playhead over the end edge of the clips you want to "Extend Edit" then his the ']' key it selects ALL THE EDGES OF THOSE CLIPS!!!!! AMAZING! Then you simply place your playhead where you want them all to end up and go to Trim > Extend Edit or 'Shift + x' and VIOLA!!!!!
