Removing Traffic Background Noise?

Anyone have any tips on removing traffic background noise? It's just someone talking and there is a freeway nearby so you can hear the hum of the cars going by pretty well...would be nice if I could reduce it a little bit without distorting the voice...?

Any help,
Thanks!

I learned this lesson the hard way, I took some footage then assumed I could easily remove the background noise in post..

You can remove some with the background/hum removal in the audio settings, but its difficult if you're recording audio from a person at the same time. But the more you remove the more it sounds robotic

if you have cash to spare you could try www.izotope.com/en/products/audio-repair/rx/

(RX4 is out soon if you can wait)

These days I use a decent wind shield (rode blimp) and NTG shotgun mic and this helps me immensely in post editing

Yeah its not too much of a worry because i made it very clear to the client this would be an issue and all that and they didn't care. It was more just for my own personal satisfaction that it be as good as it can be...

I'm sure the Izotope plugin would help but its not worth it for this particular one...id prob wait until September.

if it's a constant hum, you could give Audacitys version of 'Sound Soap' a try
wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Noise_Removal

You select a part in your audio, which contains only the unwanted noises, then Audacity tries to 'substrate' this from the whole ...

... but I assume, cars-passing-by is too 'random' ... anyhow, Audacity is free ... !

As already mentioned RX3/RX4 is probably the best tool, but it's expensive. Sometimes the FCP X built-in denoiser tool works OK, but you have little control except for a single slider. RX3 has many adjustment options and provides a more natural result.

However even RX3 can struggle if the material was recorded with automatic gain control (audio AGC). This is because the noise level is constantly ramping up and down between words, sentences, etc. Background noise reduction on spoken word material works much better with a fixed recording level.

I hated paying for RX3 but audio is very important. The first tip-off of poor quality video is poor audio. Yogi Berra said: "Baseball is 90% mental, the other half is physical." In our business you could say "video is 90% visual, the other half is audio".
