Hi All.
I just emailed Crumple pop about an issue with two of their film grain plug ins and I was wondering if any of you could run a quick test.
The problem is with 16mm 8653 250T and 8673 500T film grain plug ins. When I add either of these to a clip, I get a small flashing spot towards the top middle part of the image. It is very subtle and seems to be come on and off at an even interval.
You may have to look at it with some kind of mid tone. You won't see it on white I don't think.
Could any of you that have these do a quick test? I'm running 10.1.3.
Thanks very much.
Jonathan

This has to do with the fact that all of their film grains are video loops, so the dot you're seeing is a film grain imperfection being repeated over and over. I emailed them about it a long time ago and they said to edit the film grain clip in the effects folder and replace it with another one... Which I thought was a pretty BS answer.
So you probably won't get a different answer from them and they didn't do anything to change eliminate these issues on their 4K versions so other than editing the original clip, there's not much else you can do.
If you look at all of the film grain, you will see that every dot repeats, but not all of them standout as much as the white ones.

Julian,
Thanks so much for your reply! I'm glad (sad) that it is not just happening to me. I had a feeling that the plug in was/is a loop, thus the cycling.
That said, it is troubling to hear the lack of responses from Crumplepop, especially since today I received one of their many 50% off deals on the plug ins!!!
Is anyone else pissed about this?
I'll give it another day or two for a reply before I go out of my way to really make a stink. If I recall correctly, these were not inexpensive plug in's though in fairness I did use one of their discounts.
Could you explain how to "edit" their plug in as you mentioned?
Maybe you and I are the only one's who purchased this, it would be interesting to hear others.
Thanks again.
Jonathan

Hi Jonathan,
Gabe from CrumplePop here. Sorry that you're having an issue with the grain plugins. I don't seem to see an email from you - can you give it another try? You can email sara [at] crumplepop.com.
If you can send along a screen shot of the frame that has the flashing problem, that would be helpful.
Also, if this is a problem that others are experiencing - please let us know, so we can put in a bug fix.
In the mean time, if you are under deadline to complete your project, the easiest route would be to choose a different grain stock - we offer several, so that if you don't like one, you have other options.
Looking forward to hearing from you.

Hi Gabe,
Thanks for responding and sorry for the tone of my first message. Bad client day.... I'll re email tommorow and try to do a screen grab of the repeating spot. As I mentioned it is in the top middle part of my frame.
Julian didn't state the location of his spot dot problem.
Either way I'll get on this tommorow.
Thanks for reaching out.

Gabe,
I there a phone number that I could call someone at CP at. This would be so much easier to talk this out on the phone, would take a fraction of the time, and I hate email.
I called the number on the web site ask to leave an email address.
Let me know if this is something do-able. We could even schedule a call if that helps.

Hi Jonathan,
I understand - email can be cumbersome sometimes. However, it's our best way of getting prompt responses to everyone who needs support!
We can keep it very simple and quick for you - all we need is
1. A screenshot of where the grain does something you don't like, and
2. The name of the plugin you're using.
We can easily figure out everything else from there.
Thanks!

Gabe,
I just sent an email to the sara@crumplepop.com email with three attachments. I also went through all five of the plug ins and so far the problem is with 8653, 8673, and 8622.
Please let me know if you did not get it. I also put my phone # in case anyone needs to contact me.
Thanks.
