When activated, does the stabilisation option in FCPX only analyse the part of a clip actually used or does it do the whole clip? If it's the latter, is there a way to make it only analyse and fix sections that have been used in the timeline?

Hey Damian,
FCP X only analyzes the part of the clip to which you have applied the stabilization. The longer the clip the longer it will take to analyze.

Thanks Ronny. I read somewhere that WHEN you hit the stabilisation button is very important.
If you drag and big clip into the timeline and hit stabilisation BEFORE you chop it up, it will stabilise the full clip regardless of how much you cut away AFTER applying the stabilisation.
Is that correct?

That is correct. Only apply stabilization when your clip is cut to its final length.
